JAIPUR: The two major political parties in Rajasthan, the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, on Tuesday indicated that they are comfortable with the polling date of December 4, announced earlier in the day in Delhi for the State by the Election Commission.
Electoral rolls ready
The Chief Electoral Officer of Rajasthan, Vinod Zutshi, said the electoral rolls are ready while the photo identity cards could be got made even a day before the polling.
Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president C. P. Joshi, welcoming the announcement of the election schedule, said “it is time for the people of Rajasthan to defeat the corrupt BJP Government in the State”.
He accused Chief Minister Vaundhara Raje of making political appointments till the other day even when she knew the election dates would be announced soon. “She made the appointments against the prevailing public sentiment,” he said.
While the Chief Minister was away in Mumbai, BJP State president Omprakash Mathur said his party was fully prepared for the elections while the Congress was not. “For the Congress, it is ‘bina dulhe ki baraat’ (a marriage procession without the bridegroom/leader),” he said.
Briefing journalists on the preparedness for the polls soon after the Election Commission’s announcement of the poll schedule for five States, Mr. Zutshi said the process of adding names of genuine voters who were left out would continue till November 17, the last date for filing of nominations.
