State procures 70 lakh tonnes of wheat
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has made a payment of more than Rs.6,000 crore to farmers of the State for wheat procured up to April 27 in 1,615 centres. The wheat procurement touched 70 lakh tonnes mark.
The State Government has already set aside Rs.11176 crore for theseason to ensure trouble-free payment to the farmers, an official spokesman said here on Monday.
He said a sum of Rs.8,000 crore had been placed at the disposal of the Food and Supply Department for the month of April alone. A sum of Rs.951.50 crore has been allocated to PUNGRAIN whereas MARKFED has been allocated Rs.1216.30 crore for buying wheat. PUNSUP has been allocated Rs.1237 crore and an amount of Rs.590.26 crores has been made available to PSWC.
The spokesman said that these government agencies and private millers had procured more than 69.67 lakh tonnes of wheat in Punjab till Sunday evening, of which 67.64 lakh tonne (97.01 per cent) is for the Central pool and 45,195 tonnes for the State pool. --PTI
