Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), which is spearheading anti-land acquisition in the POSCO project area, has said its members put up barricade at least in four villages to block entry of the government officials.
The latest wave of protests has been planned as PPSS is apprehending renew of land acquisition after the budget session of State Assembly.
“We are apprehending police crackdown after the end of the budget session on April 6. We have re-erected bamboo and wooden barricades at Gobindpur, Patana, Dhinkia, and Trilochanpur villages under Jagatsinghpur’s Dhinkia gram panchayat to prevent officials and the police from entering the proposed POSCO plant site,” said Prashant Paikray, spokesperson of PPSS. Manorama Khatua of PPSS said that villagers could go to any extent to ensure stopping of the project on the fertile land.
The PPSS has demanded immediate withdrawal of policemen from Gobindpur village.
It has threatened to launch hunger-strike from April 3 next if the police deployment was not withdrawn.
