Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, the organisation opposing the proposed steel plant of Posco-India Private Limited, on Thursday boycotted a meeting of the Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) that was convened by the Jagatsinghpur district administration to finalise the compensation package for those who were to be affected by the steel project.

The administration should not have convened the meeting until Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited the three gram panchayats where people were opposing displacement, said Prashant Paikray, spokesman of the Sangram Samiti.

The Chief Minister recently promised the leaders of the Sangram Samiti that he would visit the Posco project area in Jagatsinghpur.

“We have nothing to do with the compensation package as we are firm on our demand for shifting of the project site to any other place,” Mr. Paikray said.

The RPDAC meeting was continuing in the district headquarters town of Jagatsinghpur till late in the evening.
