Says price hike will be unbearable "No orders issued for 20 welfare schemes announced in previous budget"

Puducherry: Puducherry Munnetra Congress leader K. Lakshmianrayanan has said that the Value Added Tax, coming into force from June this year, will be injurious to common man. The price hike would be unbearable, he said in a release containing his reaction to budget proposals.

He said it was really disappointing that the Government had not made any firm announcements that to drop the proposals on port development, special economic zone and the satellite township, which pose a threat to the life of farmers and farm labourers.

He wondered why the Government was indifferent to the unanimous protest against these projects. No new scheme had been announced in the budget and all that had been pointed out was only a repetition of what was already said in previous budget. Meanwhile, secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator A. Anbalagan said that it was indeed perplexing that even when no Government orders were issued for 20 welfare schemes announced in the previous budget, there was no use making new announcements in the current budget.
