High Level Committee meeting urged to address their issues

Pondicherry: The Pondicherry-based Federation of the Associations of Physically Challenged Persons called upon the administration to immediately convene a meeting of the High Level Committee constituted by the Government to address their issues. Members of the various associations attached to the federation took out a rally from Odiansalai to Bharathi Park to press for their eight-point charter of demands.

Office bearers of the federation addressed the participants of the rally and the demonstration held later at the park.

Their demands included three per cent quota for the disabled in employment, enhanced monthly assistance and rice promised by the Government, distribution of red ration cards to all the physically challenged persons without discrimination, sanction of loans through the Corporation for Development of Women and the Physically Challenged People without insisting on collateral security, three per cent quota in all the welfare schemes and programmes implemented by the Government.
