CUTTACK: There seems to be no end to the woes of Athagarh MLA Ramesh Rout who won the Assembly elections from the prestigious constituency in April-May polls this year as an Independent candidate.

While a writ is pending in the High Court wherein former Athagarh MLA and senior BJD leader Ranendra Pratap Swain has pleaded to declare the election of Rout as null and void, a voter of the constituency on Thursday moved the court of Athagarh SDJM claiming that the Independent MLA has made an attempt to influence the voters by making a false affidavit while filing his nomination papers.

Sibanaryan Patnaik, a native of Athagarh Town in his complaint before the lower court has claimed that the MLA has falsely mentioned in his affidavit that he has passed Class IX examinations from the local Biswanath Vidyapeeth.

Patnaik maintains that he had sought information from the School under the RTI Act about the studentship of Rout. “But the school headmaster has refused to recognise the MLA as an old student of the school saying there was no student named Ramesh Rout in the school roll during the period mentioned”, the complainant said urging the court to initiate criminal proceedings against the MLA.

The SDJM after cognizance of the case has ordered for an enquiry into the matter and has fixed October 23 for the next hearing of the case.
