PUDUCHERRY: Retired officials of the Puducherry Government recently submitted a memorandum to Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh to set up a Pensioners' Welfare Department.
A release from The Puducherry Government Retired Officials' Association said that there are 17,000 pensioners, with 700 employees retiring from government service every year.
Pensioners face several social security problems such as lack of medical facilities, but there is no department to look after the welfare of the officials who have served the government for over 30 years.
Lieutenant Governor action
After discussion with the association members, the Lieutenant Governor has instructed the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries to take action, the press release said.
