Members of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes’ organisations took out a march here on Sunday to condemn sociologist Ashis Nandy’s comments against Dalits and backward classes at the Jaipur Literature Festival on Saturday. They demanded Mr. Nandy’s arrest.
The protesters marched from the Patna High Court to the Dak Bungalow Square, where they burnt an effigy of Mr. Nandy.
“Ashis Nandy’s remarks have endangered the unity and integrity of our country. On what basis has he made them? How can he be considered a sociologist? Do the SCs/STs and the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) have money in Swiss banks?” said Narendra Kumar of the All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations.
The organisation plans to bring an action against Mr. Nandy. A police complaint has been filed in Jaipur.
“All the socially corrupt people have gained dominance over all the wealth and resources. The SCs/STs are cornered with cases of corruption,” said Harikeshwar Ram of the SC/ST Employees’ Association.
