Nritta Ganeshi Manoharan will take part

BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Samskruti Academy (OSA) in association with city-based cultural organisation Bansi Bilas would present 12-year-old budding Odissi dancer Nritta Ganeshi Manoharan from Malayasia at IDCOL auditorium here on Saturday evening.

OSA chairperson Kedar Mishra said the academy hosts ‘Aalap’, a dialogue with the distinguished series in the city that features eminent writers and artists in interactive sessions with a select audience. “We are launching ‘asara’ concert series in January that would feature performing artistes here at regular intervals. Our thrust has been on highlighting young artistes as soloists,” he explained. Nritta would perform as a soloist under the ‘asara’ concert series, he added.

Nritta, disciple of Akademi Award winner Guru Durga Charan Ranbir, is the daughter of Kuala Lumpur-based senior Bharatanatyam dancer Shangita Mahoharan, who was a product of Rukmini Devi Arundale’s famed Kalakshetra in Chennai, said Bansi Bilas director Leena Mohanty, an accomplished dancer based in America at present. Shangita also worked with celebrated choreographer Chandralekha, she added.

“Nritta loved watching Odissi dance as a kid and opted to learn it too. I bring her to India every year to train her in the traditional Odissi style,” revealed Shangita and added that the child was conferred the “Wonder kid of Asia” title this year for dance by a Singapore-based prominent television channel.
