PUDUCHERRY: The aspects involved in making the right choice of course were outlined for students of Class XI at a session on “Art of choosing career” conducted recently by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Puducherry State Council.
It was aimed at helping students of government and private higher secondary schools and providing an insight into personal optimisation of every student, a release said. Director of School Education S. Sundaravadivelu, in his inaugural address, said that 20 to 30 years ago, the choice of study for students was limited. Now, several new courses are available.
On how children select a course, he said they either go by choices made by their parents or friends. Most often, the choices are not according to the interest of the children, Mr. Sundaravadivelu said. Chairman of the CII, Puducherry, T. Rajarajan said that in most schools, the options available are biology or computer science and students were given no time to decide about making a choice.
Col. D.P. Singh, Commandant of National Cadet Corps Group Headquarters, spoke about career prospects in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
