Up in arms against a Union Ministry of Home Affairs order on extending their services to the States of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, representatives of the Delhi Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service Officers’ Association met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at her residence to demand her intervention for stalling the move.

The DANICS officials had held an emergency general body meeting to discuss the situation arising out of the MHA’s decision to extend their area of operation to the two North Eastern States as well. An official said the MHA wants to add Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram to DANICS and it had sent a proposal in this regard to the Department of Personnel and Training which had opined that this cannot be done since DANICS is a Union Territory cadre and both these States were full-fledged ones. Despite the DoPT’s opinion to the contrary, the official said a Joint Secretary in MHA has been persisting with the matter.
