BHUBANESWAR: Close on the heels of the Naveen Patnaik Government announcing to accord Junior Class I status on doctors at entry level, Orissa Administrative Service Association (OASA) demanded parity in status as well as scale of pay.

Members of OASA convened an emergency meeting here recently where they decided to press for their demands.

"State civil service officers of all over the country start their career in Junior Class-I with a pay scale of Rs. 8000 to Rs. 13,500 or with some other equivalent scale whereas the OAS officers start career from Class-II level carrying a pay scale of Rs. 6,500-Rs.10,500 without any time-bound scale or promotion," Mr. Nanda elaborated.

Kishore Mohanty of OASA said they attended to most arduous nature of jobs like conducting all types of elections, maintaining law and order, conducting census operation and managing natural calamities.
