Following directions from the Election Commission of India, the Cuttack district administration has increased the number of polling booths for the general elections from 2,042 to 2,055 in the districts.
There are nine Assembly segments in Cuttack district. Of them, the number of booths in Banki, Athgarh, Barabati-Cuttack, Niali, Cuttack- Sadar, and Salepur constituencies have registered an increase in the number of booths. “The number of booths have been increased to help the electorate to cast their vote without any hassles,” said district election officer and district Magistrate Girish S.N. At a review meeting held here this week, the Collector invited objections or suggestions by July 22 from major political parties over the booth delimitation. The Collector also informed that the Election Commission, in its guidelines, had instructed that there shall not be more than 1,200 voters in any booth located in the rural areas and 1,400 voters in urban booths.
