KOLKATA : The State Congress said here on Wednesday that the party was not responsible for the break-up of the alliance with the Trinamool Congress for the upcoming civic elections.
The collapse of the electoral pact was not a result of a political conspiracy involving the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said Pradip Bhattacharaya, working president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC). He was speaking to the media shortly after Subrata Mukherjee, the other working president of the WBPCC who joined the Trinamool on Wednesday, had blamed the Congress for the break-up of the pact. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had earlier in the day indirectly accused the Congress of conspiring with the CPI(M) to ensure the collapse of the electoral alliance.
“There is no question of a conspiracy. Where is the Congress to blame?” questioned Mr. Bhattacharya.
