Construction of new building in full swing at Jatni
National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, which is presently functioning from campus of Institute of Physic, is likely to move to its own campus at Jatni next year.
“The construction taken up by infrastructure major L&T is in full swing. Almost 70 per cent of construction is over. We hope to shift to our own campus by July 2014,” said NISER Director T. K. Chandrasekhar speaking to reporters here on Saturday.
Dr. Chandrasekhar said, “we aim to have 2,000 students and 250 faculties on our campus. There will be 450 technical staff and 100 administrative staff. The campus will have 140 quarters for assistant professors and 70 for professors. Besides, a natural water-body would be converted to aquatic complex.”
At present, NISER offers five-year Integrated M.Sc. programme in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. There are 400 students, including 100 students in PhD programme. As many as 64 faculties have already been recruited.
The first academic programme of NISER was inaugurated September 10, 2007 on IOP campus here with enrolling of 40 students. The first batch of students has already passed out.
“We are right on the track. The mandate with NISER was set up has been achieved. As many as 30 students from first batch have opted for research. They are pursuing research in some distinguished institutes of the country,” Dr. Chandrasekhar said, adding that many students of second batch had already got offer from United States to pursue higher studies.
“We are going to start PhD programme in humanity stream from July 2013. Active researches would be undertaken in the field of sociology and economics,” he said.
The NISER Director said the institute would add two other streams such as Environment Science and Earth Science after its shifting to its own campus at Jatni.
