The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) after receiving an application from a civil rights activist regarding last month’s police ‘attack’ on a journalist in Bhubaneswar has issued notice to the Director General of Police (DGP).

“Taking up the application recently, the NHRC has issued notice to DGP Prakash Mishra seeking a detailed report from him on the incident within four weeks,” said rights activist and advocate Prabir Das.

Das had urged the Commission to ensure a fair enquiry into the conduct of the Bhubaneswar police who ‘attacked’ a city reporter of a vernacular daily. The reporter had gone to cover the demonstration staged by the activists of a political party in front of the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on March 25.
