Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday launched Sakshara Bharat, the scheme which has been devised as a variant of the national literacy mission here. The programme will cover all adults in the age group of 15 and above with focus on women literacy.

Mr. Patnaik also inaugurated the cattle breed improvement programme to be managed under J.K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojna with the support of the State government. It is aimed at increasing the productivity of Indian cattle and buffaloes.

Some 6,015 pattas were distributed to the landless tribal beneficiaries. Some 1,290 Forest Rights Act titles, covering all tehsils, including Kotia group of villages, were distributed.

A documentary titled ‘Life and Rhythms among the woodlanders of Koraput’ which was the abstract of the process documentation of the entire process of the formation and strengthening of Koraput Zilla Kala Sanskrutika Sangha capturing different art forms from all across the district, was inaugurated by Mr. Patnaik.

A group of Congress activists, under the leadership of Tara Prasad Bahinipati, former MLA, holding black flags raised slogans against the Chief Minister.

Later, Mr. Bahinipati and his supporters were taken into custody by the local police and were taken to the town police station.

Meanwhile, according to a report from Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister could not land in Bhubaneswar on his return due to bad weather. Mr. Patnaik had to make an emergency landing at Visakhapatnam, said sources in Chief Minister’s Office.
