A National Cancer Institute (NCI) and a National Cardio Care Centre (NCCC) would be set up at the second campus of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Badhsa village of Jhajjar, 60 km from Delhi. Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad announced this on Saturday at the inauguration of the Outreach OPD of the AIIMS-II campus spread over 300 acres.

Mr. Azad said heart and cancer diseases were on the rise due to modern day lifestyles and the need was being felt for national-level institutes to deal with the menace.

He said the proposed NCI, with a capacity of 600 beds, would be the biggest cancer institute in the country equipped with all kinds of facilities to treat different forms of cancer.

The new AIIMS-II, with a total capacity of 2,100 beds, would be developed as a world-class institute and Expression of Interest had already been called through international biding for drafting the master plan, the Minister added.
