Talent hunt for singers concludes
The State-level talent hunt initiative launched by ETV-Oriya -- Amari Swara -- to spot the budding singers concluded at Rabindra Mandap here on Saturday evening with Satyajit Pradhan being crowned with the Amari Swara title.
Of the four finalists, Sasanka Sekhar Sahoo finished as the runners-up, while Pratyasha and Sudipta were eliminated.. While Satyajit received a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh, Sasanka had to be content with Rs. 50, 000.
Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Odissi vocalist-composer Ramahari Das, film music composer Prem Anand, album music composer Purna Khuntia and playback singer Tapu Mishra comprised the jury that selected the winners.
Governor M.C. Bhandare, who was the chief guest at the prize presentation ceremony, conferred Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrushna Das Samman on eminent musician Prafulla Kar on the occasion for his lifetime contribution to music. Besides the four finalists, jury member Tapu Mishra, music composer Amarendra Mohanty and singer Nazia Alam performed during the concert that featured a unique segment with singer-sons of two legendary singers -- Chitrabhanu Mohanty, son of late Akshaya Mohanty and Prafulla Kar's son Mahaprasad Kar.
