The child was allegedly abducted by his father

Mumbai: A week after Maharashtra Director General of Police S. S. Virk sought 15 days to find him, four-year-old Sujal Chug, who was allegedly abducted by his father, was reunited with his mother after nine months.

Bunty Chug, the father, handed over the child to police on Friday.

Relations between Sujal’s mother Priti and Bunty have been strained. Last November, when family court ordered Bunty to hand over the son’s custody to the mother, he disappeared with Sujal.

Priti Chug then filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, since police had failed to trace Bunty.

Yesterday, Bunty’s lawyer told division bench of Justices B. H. Marlapalle and Roshan Dalvi that his client was ready to hand over the child.

Following which, Bunty brought Sujal to Churchgate station, where police were waiting for him. He himself managed to run away.

Last week, another bench of High Court, led by Justice Bilal Nazki had summoned State DGP S. S. Virk to the court, as Virk failed to file a personal report on the probe.

Virk later came to the court and assured the judges that within a fortnight there would be some results. -- PTI
