Lifeline Express, world’s first advanced hospital on wheels started its operations at Chatrapur railway station in Ganjam district on Thursday.
It is for the second time for Tata Steel to host Lifeline Express in Ganjam district. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Damodar Rout inaugurated the sojourn of Lifeline Express at Chatrapur. The inaugural function was also attended by the Berhampur MP as well as MLAs of Chatrapur, Berhampur, Gopalpur and Khallikote.
Sunil Bhaskaran, Deputy vice-president (Corporate Services) of Tata Steel, A.K.Ojha, General Manager of Gopalpur Project of Tata Steel, and Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Chief Resident Executive of Tata Steel, were also present during the inaugural function.
According to Lifeline Express sources, Tata Steel is hosting Lifeline Express for the seventh time in Odisha and for the second time in Ganjam district and seventeenth time in the country at Chatrapur.
Lifeline Express would stay at Chatrapur station till May 11. As per Tata Steel officials during this stay around 10,000 patients from Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts were to benefit from it.
During its stay at Chatrapur railway station the Lifeline Express would provide free surgical interventions in areas of post-polio deformities, cleft lips, hearing disorders and dental and eye-related problems. The treatment and necessary surgeries, medicines accommodation, hearing aids, callipers, tricycles and wheel chairs will be provided free of cost to the patients.
It was claimed that around 24,000 physically challenged persons of Odisha have been benefited by the past sojourns of the Lifeline Express.
In State , Tata Steel has hosted Lifeline Express at Brahmanipal, Joda, Gopalpur siding and twice at Jajpur-Keonjhar Road as well as Meramundali. Tata Steel has ongoing and committed investment of over Rs. 50,000 crore spanning steel, power, ports, infrastructure, technology and hospitality sectors in State.
Through its community outreach initiatives, Tata Steel reaches out to more than 25,000 families , the company sources said.
