In the JV, OMC had agreed to give 74 per cent stake to private company

The backward Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput region came into focus yet again on Saturday when Odisha Janmorcha leader Pyarimohan Mohapatra addressed a public meeting organised by the members of a Dalit community in Koraput district.

It was Mr. Mohapatra’s second visit to the region after the Janmorcha’s Kranti Samavesh rally in Bhawanipatna town on November 19 where he had severely criticised Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik on various counts.

Talking to presspersons at the rally venue, Mr. Mohapatra said that he was in possession of some documents, which he termed Brahmashtra (lethal weapon), with regard to the alleged irregularities that were committed in the joint venture agreement between Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and Delhi-based Sainik Mining and Allied Services Ltd (SMASL) for coal mining. He said that he would hand over the documents to the CBI which is investigating into the coal scam.

Although the State government had cancelled the agreement in the wake of the unearthing of the coal scam, a public interest petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking action against those who committed the alleged irregularities. In the joint venture agreement, OMC had agreed to give 74 per cent stake to the private company.

Demands

While Mr. Mohapatra extended his support to the various demands of those belonging to the Dalit community in his address at the rally, a parallel public meeting was organised on behalf of the same community in the district where several BJD leaders addressed the gathering.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting at the State Secretariat where the implementation of the Biju KBK Yojana and Biju Kandhamal-Gajapati Yojana were reviewed in the presence of senior officials of the State Government.

The ruling BJD has already organised several public meetings and meetings for party workers in the KBK region since Mr. Mohapatra announced to organise the Janmorcha’s rally in Bhawanipatna.
