Will come into effect 2007-2008 fiscal

Puducherry: Health Minister E. Valsaraj announced at a press conference here on Thursday that the "Puducherry Pensioners Medical Facilities Rules 2006', evolved to provide medical facilities to the retired Government staff, would be enforced from the next fiscal (2007-2008).

He said that the employees and staff retiring from State Government services were not covered now under the scheme implemented by the Centre, exclusively for its retired employees. The Union Territory Administration had therefore come out with a scheme. He said that 11 private hospitals in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, 7 private institutions in Mahe and 5 in Yanam were approved institutions under the scheme.

Identity cards would be issued to the pensioners with details of dependents to get the free and specialised treatment.

Those taking advantage of the services in private hospitals need not pay any amount to the hospitals, as the Government would, on receipt of the bills from the hospitals, reimburse it.
