The Mahanadi Bachao Andolan (MBA), an outfit spearheading for proper utilisation of Mahanadi water for the benefit of farmers have decided to picket near the State Assembly on December 3.
At a preparatory meeting here on Wednesday, the activists of the outfit came down heavily on the State government’s policy of allotting the river water for industrial purposes leaving almost nothing for agricultural purposes and human consumptions.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Choudhury P.K. Mishra was attended among others by BJP leaders Bijay Mohapatra, Samir Dey, Nibedita Pradhan, Sajjan Sharma, Dillip Mallick and former parliamentarian Anadi Sahu.
The speakers criticised the manner in which the State government is nonchalant towards the requirement of farmers and allotting the river waters for the water guzzling industries.
“In the absence of a Water Commission in the State, river waters of Brahmani, Baitarani, Rushikulya and Mahendratanaya are also being divested for industrial purposes,” they said.
The activists also resolved that they would oppose tooth and nail to all the proposed projects of Tata.
