A man, accused of murdering his 19-year-old daughter in a suspected honour killing, was on Thursday remanded to 14 days' judicial custody by a local court.
The girl's father was produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and later sent to judicial custody, the prosecution said.
The victim had allegedly eloped with her lover, who belongs to Dalit community, on October 22. The two had gone to Haridwar and the girl returned home on the evening of October 25.
The girl was allegedly killed by her father, who slit her throat on Tuesday. The body was found on Wednesday morning near the municipality office in Charthawal, police said. The father of the girl was arrested and confessed to have killed his daughter for “tarnishing family name”, they said. - PTI
