Lucknow: A court here on Friday awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.10,000 to Sunny Rawat, prime accused in the Meher Bhargava murder case, while acquitting three other accused for lack of sufficient evidence.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar had held Rawat guilty on Thursday but had fixed Friday for hearing on the quantum of punishment.
The court acquitted the three other accused, Pramod Singh, Jaiprakash Singh and Ajay Prakash Singh.
Another accused, Sachin Pahari, had been killed in a shootout with the police.
According to the prosecution, Meher Bhargava was shot dead by Sunny Rawat on the night of February 28, 2006, in the city’s posh Hazratganj area when she resisted a bid to molest her daughter-in-law.
Meher had later died in hospital in New Delhi, where she was rushed for treatment. - PTI
