CHANDIGARH: The annual SATKAL (Satinder Kaur Ramdev Memorial Trust for Advancement of Librarianship) Awards will be presented to four reputed librarians at a function here on Saturday by the Union Minister of State for Finance, Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, V.K. Anand, Librarian of A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, and Member of SATKAL, said that the Punjab National Librarian Award would be given to R.P.Kumar, Chief Librarian, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; Women's Librarian Award to Dr. (Mrs.) S.P.Singh, Chairperson, Department of Library, University of Delhi; Young Librarian Award to P.V.Rao, Librarian, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh; and School Librarian Award to Preeti Kathpalia, Librarian, St. John High School, Chandigarh.

Dr.Anand said SATKAL was founded by Jaginder Singh Ramdev in April 2000. Mr. Ramdev was the first Deputy Librarian of Panjab University. He later worked as librarian at IIT Chicago.

He set up the Trust in memory of his wife Satinder Kaur Ramdev who died in the US in 1997.
