PONDICHERRY: The Pondicherry Government will bring in comprehensive legislation during the current session to ensure that students selected under the government quota get admission to self-financing professional colleges without hiccups, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy told the Assembly on Monday.

Replying to questions from members of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he said students sponsored by the CENTAC faced hardship every year, with the quota of seats for them becoming uncertain. To solve the problem once and for all, a bill would be introduced to fix the quota.

Education Minister M. O. H. F. Shahjahan told K. Lakshminarayanan of the PMC that a May 25 order contemplated admission of students under the domicile category to fill 50 per cent of the seats in each of the professional colleges, except the minority institutions and deemed universities.
