BHOPAL: Language labs are to be set up in seven autonomous technical institutes across Madhya Pradesh under a World Bank project for improvement in the quality of technical education. The cost of the project, to be completed by 2008, would be Rs. 50.44 crores.

In the first phase of the project, five autonomous engineering colleges and two autonomous polytechnics would be covered.

The language labs would be set up in these institutes to develop high levels of communication and vocational skills among the students. The labs would be used by students to supplement regular classes.

The plan is to equip the technical institutes with digital libraries and digital journals so that the students could remain up-to-date about the latest research.

To ensure optimum use of resources, there would also be a networking of institutes covered under this project. The members of the teaching faculty would also receive international-level training within the country and abroad to improve the quality of education being imparted by these institutes.

Under the World Bank project, the curriculum of these institutes would require regular accreditation.
