PUDUCHERRY: Garlanding of statues and portraits, sweets distribution and ‘annadanam’ marked the birth anniversary celebrations of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K. Kamaraj in Puducherry on Tuesday.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, his Cabinet colleagues, legislators, Pradesh Congress Committee president A.V. Subramanian and Congress functionaries garlanded the statue of Kamaraj and offered floral tributes to the leader’s portrait at the PCC office.
A meeting was held at the PCC office to recall the contribution of Kamaraj to the country’s progress.
Leaders of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress paid floral tributes to the leader’s portrait. MLAs K. Lakshminarayanan and N. Anand took part in the celebrations.
The Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Centenary Memorial Trust distributed free notebooks, pens and pencils to students.
Functionaries of the Pondicherry State Janata Dal Secular also paid floral tributes to Kamaraj’s portrait.
With the day being celebrated as “Students’ Day,” St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School gave away prizes to winners of various competitions, including elocution, poetry, essay, handicrafts and painting.
Certificates and medals were given to top rank holders of Class X and XII examinations.
The school also released a DVD.
