Bihar defeated Maharashtra by a Neha Kumari strike in the 63rd minute to give her team a winning start to the quarterfinal league of the junior National women’s football championship at the Barabati Stadium here on Wednesday. In another quarterfinal league game, Tamil Nadu outplayed Meghalaya by five goals to nil at the Police ground.

On the opening day of the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Manipur girls got the better of Odisha eves by a solitary goal scored by H. Sunita Devi in the third minute. It was to the credit of Odisha girls that they fought hard and did not allow the Manipur team to dominate them.

Another favourite team, Kerala, was held by Nagaland 1-1. Ruth Rengna put Nagaland ahead with a 47th minute goal. P.K. Lakshmika equalised for Kerala four minutes later.
