Resentment is now brewing among Diploma Engineers of the State, who have been waiting for over a decade for getting government jobs as the State government was posting them as junior engineers from a State-level panel since 1970 as per the vacancies arising at different departments at different times.

They are now agitated over a recent government notification which says that henceforth, overlooking the panel, the State Staff Selection Board would recommend candidates for the posts of junior engineers in different departments on the basis of a merit list prepared by the Board after conducting a written test and considering the career marks.

“The government notification of December 29, 2012 will ruin the job prospects of thousands of meritorious students who have been waiting in the merit list since 1996,” said Er Amiya Kumar Bahinipati, the working president of Odisha Unemployed Diploma Engineers’ Association.

Bahinipati maintains that general candidates waiting in the panel list since 1996 and have crossed the maximum age limit of 32 years are now not eligible to appear the written test to be conducted by the Staff Selection Board.
