Pondicherry: M. P. Ramanujam, a Reader in Kaanchi Maamunivar Centre for Postgraduate studies in Pondicherry (affiliated to Pondicherry University), was conferred with Academy of Plant Science India (APSI) International scientist award at the 13th annual conference of the Academy at Coimbatore recently. The award for 2004 was in recognition of Dr. Ramanujam's contribution to science and environment.
He was an active campaigner of environmental issues for more than two decades through writings in the print media and orations from various forums.
He authored books on "heredity, environmental problems and natural disasters".
Dr. Ramanujam was a member of Advisory Committees on reorganisation of Botanical gardens, interpretation centre of Horticulture Department, Noise Pollution Monitoring and Programmes of Science and Technology for Government of Pondicherry.
