Workshop, human chain, sand art and public debate marked the celebration of International Human Rights Day.

A two-day State-level training programme for human rights defenders got under way here with a call to uphold human rights at all levels.

Speakers came down heavily on the government for its alleged oppressive measures to suppress voices which were raised to protest against injustice.

The training programme was organized by the Human Rights Front and National Human Right Commission.

Similarly, Manas Sahoo, the sand animator, created a sand art along Puri beach commemorating observance of International Human Rights Day.

Students of the city-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences formed a human chain in order to create awareness about human rights issues.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout, Member of Parliament P. K. Patasani, local MLA Bijay Mohanty and Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Anant Narayan Jena were present to encourage students.
