CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday offered to sponsor the Indian hockey team for the World Cup tournament in New Delhi next month.

Reacting to media reports about the hockey team, he said he would like India to regain its lost glory in this game, adding that his regime would happily sponsor the Indian hockey team in case the Indian Hockey Federation “fails to meet the expenditure”.

He said it was very embarrassing that the national hockey players boycotted their training weeks before playing a major tournament like the World Cup.

He reiterated that his Government had been encouraging sportspersons in a big way and had implemented a new sports policy.
