PUDUCHERRY: Students of four government schools in Puducherry won cash awards from the University of Paris South 11, Orsay, in the second edition of ‘Make Science Competition’ on Thursday.
The university, along with the Pondicherry Science Forum, has been conducting the competition for government school students to develop scientific temper among them, secretary of the forum S. Murugan said.
A total of 26 projects were submitted for the competition. An expert committee had selected 12 projects.
On Thursday, members of the university interacted with the students from the participating government schools through video conference and the 12 projects were displayed, he said. The university selected the best four projects and the team from Government Higher Secondary School, Kuravallimedu, near Manapattu, Bahour, bagged the first prize for their project on ‘Ecology of a pond.’ The prize had a cash component of 300 Euros.
The second prize was shared by three schools – Government Girls French High School for their project on ‘AIDS-the killer disease,’ Government Middle School at Soriaankuppam for their study on ‘The impact of weed density on application of various manures’ and Government Middle School at Okaipalayam on ‘Study of growth parameters of Marigold plant through organic growth parameters.’ The schools would receive cash award of 100 Euros each.
