A wireless electro cardio gram sensor device, a wireless vehicle-actuated road traffic signal controller and an intelligent parking lot management system were some of the technological innovations showcased by CDAC, a premier research and development organization under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Government of India, at a two-day Technology Conclave that concluded at India Habitat Centre here this past week.

Most of the technology on display is expected to enter the market in a few months. The Wireless ECG Sensor was launched at the event. While normally ECGs are performed using electrodes and wires attached to the body, C-DAC has developed a small pocket sized device to wirelessly acquire ECG of the patient by a single lead. “Using standard blue tooth transmission real time ECG can be monitored on a mobile phone. This product promises to be very handy in monitoring the healthcare of critical patients,” the organization said.

The compact device, which can be used by a person himself, has been developed following five months f research by a four-member team comprising hardware engineers and embedded system engineers. It is expected to become available in the market within four months.
