The High Court has directed the State government to seal all the private hospitals and nursing homes in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar which are running without the valid licences. This direction from the High Court came on Friday while adjudicating over the PIL pertaining to the problems of civic amenities in the two cities.

Amid allegations that the private hospitals are running without adequate healthcare facilities, including life saving equipments and staff, the problem of poor management of bio-medical wastes from these hospitals has actually upset the High Court. Despite repeated directions from the HC, the private hospitals are not paying any heed to them, sources said.

While it was informed to the HC that as many as 67 hospitals in the twin cities have not renewed their licences, the HC asked the government to seal all these hospitals after taking a decision on the applications of those hospitals which have applied for the renewal of licences.

It may be mentioned here that the Cuttack district administration had launched a massive crackdown on private hospitals and nursing homes in the city and sealed as many as seven hospitals which were running illegally without proper registration documents.
