In a significant move, the Orissa High Court Bar Association on Tuesday made a partial modification of its Monday’s resolution and decided to continue their ongoing strike till Friday next. The Bar Association on Monday had decided to suspend their strike and resume work from Tuesday.
However, an emergency general body meeting was convened on Tuesday following several requisitions made by the members. In the meeting, some members alleged that the Monday’ resolution was ‘unjustified’ as it lacked consensus of a majority of members. Urging the executive members of the Association to recall the Monday’s resolution, some members also proposed to dissolve the Steering Committee and Academic Committee that were formed to spearhead the High Court lawyers opposition to establishment of permanent benches of the HC elsewhere other than the principal seat.
Accordingly, the Bar Association on the day modified its Monday’s resolution and also dissolved the two committees asserting that henceforth, the executive committee would exclusively monitor the activities of the Association.
