The High Court on Thursday granted advance bail to senior BJP leader and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra in the two criminal cases registered against him by Sambalpur police in connection with the attack on a police station of December 2010.

The Bench of Justice S.C. Parija granted the anticipatory bails to the MLA ordering that in the event of the applicant's surrender, the police shall release him on bail.

Mishra had approached the HC earlier this month seeking advance bails claiming that the police might arrest him in the two cases registered against him at the behest of some BJD leaders.

The MLA had told the HC that the police had booked him wrongly in the cases even as he was innocent having no link with the matter.

The Paikamal police of the district and the IIC of neighbouring Jharbadi police station have filed the FIRs against the BJP legislator alleging that Mishra had threatened the police while BJP activists laid a siege to the Paikamal police station.
