Chandigarh: Haryana Sahitya Akademi on Monday announced awards and grant-in-aid for selected books, Hindi story writings and grant-in-aid for publication of books for 2007-08.

While stating this here, the Haryana Education Minister, Mange Ram Gupta, who is also the Senior Vice-Chairman of the Akademi said that applications were invited for published books written during the period April 2006 to March 31, 2007 by the Haryana domicile writers under the Book Awards Scheme for the year 2007-08.

An official spokesman said here today that 97 books in Hindi and Haryanvi were received out of which nine books were selected for awards.

He informed that the books selected under this category included Mei Ayodhya, a poetry book by Hareram of Faridabad, Amma Ka Chashma, a story book by Kamal Kapur of Faridabad, Khokhle Pedho Ke Shahar, a novel by Ashok Kumar Sharma, Machola, Dhai Natak, a play book by Amritlal Madan of Kaithal, Aisa Desh Hamara, a children literature book by Ghamandi Lal Aggarwal of Gurgaon, Swatantratra Sangram Ki 51 Boonde, an essay book by Madan Lal Kapoor of Karnal and Haryana Ki Sanskrit Dharohar, a public literature by Om Parkash Kadian of Hisar, Chah Chodhar Ki, a prose book in Haryanvi by Rajbir Singh Dhankhar of Rohtak and Sadabahar Shrimad Bhagwad Gita, a poetry book in Haryanvi by Mahenderpal Sarsvat of Pai.

An awards of Rs.21,000 would be given to each of these books, he added.

He said that applications were also invited by the Akademi under Hindi Story Competition Scheme for 2007-08 and as many as 61 Haryana domicile story writers sent their 85 stories for this competition. - PTI
