CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government would consider setting up the proposed Women University at Khanpur in Sonepat district as panchayats of 50 villages in the area had passed resolutions to give land for this purpose, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Monday while winding up the debate on the Governor's address in the Vidhan Sabha.

Mr. Hooda said it had also been decided to set up model schools at each district headquarters to improve the standard of education.

The State Government had not only declared the year 2006 as the Girl Child Year but also introduced innovative schemes and programmes to raised the socio-economic status of women.

Lashing out at the erstwhile Indian National Lok Dal regime for its acts of commission and omission, Mr. Hooda asserted that JBT teachers were recruited in such a manner that the case was now being investigated by the CBI.

On the other hand, vacancies of teachers were now being filled up on the basis of merit so that the students might not suffer.

He said that the plan budget for education had been increased by 50 per cent during the current financial year.
