A hardcore Maoist militia commander, Trinath Glari alias Chandra (35), involved in at least five murder cases, was arrested in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district on Sunday.

According to Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh, the Maoist was nabbed from a market place near Chitrakonda police station during a special operation by the personnel of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and the local police.

Initial interrogation of Trinath revealed that Maoists were also being used as hired killers. Trinath confessed to his involvement in an incident in which Maoists killed a man.

On January 29 this year, a young former panchayat samiti member, Kamal Lochan Anukam (27), was murdered by Maoists at Badapada village in Makangiri district. Trinath was also involved in the murder case. According to him, political rivals of Anukam, to settle personal scores, had paid Rs. 1 lakh to Maoists for the murder.

Trinath was from Gajalmundi village in cut-off area of the Chitrakonda reservoir. He joined the naxal outfit about five years ago. He was a member of Gumma Dalam of Maoists which is active in the cut-off area. He was close to senior Maoist leader Madhab who rules the Maoist organisation in the cut-off area.
