Film Society of Bhubaneswar (FSB) has announced its schedule of screening of films for the current month. It has further dedicated the event to Rabindra Nath Tagore whose 150th birth anniversary is being commemorated world-wide.
The screenings would be held on the evenings of August 29 and 30 at Jayadev Bhawan here, informed the FSB release. The first evening would feature “ Teen Kanya ” (Three Daughters) based on three stories by Tagore apart from a biographical documentary on Tagore -both directed by late Satyajit Ray in 1961 to mark Tagore's birth centenary celebrations, it mentioned.
“ Teen Kanya is a classic in its own right by one of the masters of world cinema, but it is also a remarkable cinematic adaptation of an author who remains a favourite with Indian filmmakers. It is worth reviewing Tagore's work in the light of cinema. While his indelible imprint on Indian literature, music, theatre and painting is well known, the influence of his work on Indian cinema needs to be reiterated”, it added.
The second evening would have screening of two films by Paul Cox, a filmmaker widely praised and honoured as a major figure in world cinema and one of the most important filmmakers to come out of Australia, noted the release.
The cinema of Paul Cox is marked by a distinctive voice and originality of vision, remarkably consistent through a prolific career, which would be of interest to anyone interested in world cinema, it added.
While “ Lonely Hearts ”, the first film of the evening was made in 1982, “ Innocence ”, the next film, was made in the year 2000.
FSB has also taken up a fresh membership drive and registration can be made at the venue during the two-day screening, informed its officials.
