Exhibition-cum-sale of SHG products on

PUDUCHERRY: Members of self-help groups (SHG) in and around Puducherry have displayed a range of products at a 10-day exhibition-cum-sale from April 25 to May 4.

The exhibition of SHG products, titled Gram Shree Mela, was organised by the Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS) and sponsored by the Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART). It has 58 stalls with participants from over 50 SHGs.

“The main aim of the exhibition is to provide a market for the SHG products and enable them to meet the prospective buyers. Through this, the talents of the groups are exposed and continued marketing ground could be obtained for the products,” co-organiser of the mela Ravi Subramanian said.

For this, a half-a-day workshop was also organised on April 26 to impart the guidelines of branding, packing and marketing of the products for the group members. The groups promoted by non-government organisations, agencies and government organisations have put up their stalls at the expo.

“Participants who make the highest sale would be awarded, while others would receive participation certificates. Already, some of the groups have obtained orders,” he said. The products displayed at the exhibition included bags, beads and chains, soft toys, candles, sarees, churidhar materials, jewellery, bed covers, pillow covers, pickles and agarbathi.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Member of Legislative Assembly S. P. Sivakumar. It is on at Bharathidasan Thidal, between Ambour Salai and Gingee Salai.
