CUTTACK: In a gruesome road accident at least four persons died on the spot and two others were critically injured when the stationary car in which they were sitting was hit from behind by a vehicle at Gobindpur on NH-5 under Tangi police station, about 30 kms from here on Wednesday evening.
Soon after the ghastly mishap, irate local people torched the Bolero and paralysed normal traffic on the national highway blocking the road. According to reports reaching here, tension wasmounting in the locality as hundreds of people did not allow the police to remove the bodies from the spot.
According to an unconfirmed report, one of the injured persons who were rushed to SCB medical college and hospital here succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
Police said the ambassador car that was on its way to Cuttack from Jajpur was parked on the roadside when the Bolero hit it from behind around 5.30 pm.
“Three persons including the driver of the car died on the spot while two others were critically injured”, said the local Tangi police station inspector Raj Kishore Swain.
Swain however, could not confirm the fate of the injured persons who were shifted to hospital.
