Former Trinamool Congress MLA Arabul Islam, accused in an attack on senior MLA of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Abdur Razzak Molla, was released from a correctional home in the city on Friday. He was also allegedly involved in arson at Bamanghata in the Bhangar area of South 24 Parganas district in January,

Mr Islam, arrested on January 17, was granted bail on Thursday by a city court.

He has been directed by the court not to enter the Leather Complex police station area where the arson had occurred on January 8.

Even though Trinamool Congress supporters from the Bhangar area had gathered outside the Alipore Central Correction Home to receive him no senior Trinamool Congress leader was present there.

Soon after his release, Mr Islam said his arrest was a conspiracy by the CPI(M) and the district police.

He also said that those who had conspired against him and ensured his defeat in the 2011 Assembly elections were trying to join the party with the help of some local party leaders.
