Raipur: Five tons of explosives and ammunition was on Tuesday seized from a truck at a check post on the Chattisgarh and Jharkhand border in Jashpur district, police said.
“Five tons of explosives, 17,500 rounds of rifle ammunition and 1550 bullets have been recovered from the truck,” DIG Pavan Dev told PTI on phone.
The truck was stopped by commercial tax department officials and the driver ran away when the vehicle was being searched. The police suspect that the explosive was meant for Naxals planning to disrupt Lok Sabha poll-related activity in the state. The police have been told to search vehicles on the border districts and have been put on high alert in view of the upcoming elections.
