Having tasted success in retrieving government land from clutches of land sharks through Special Cell, the State government has decided to open five more such cells in different districts.
Special cells on land would now function at district headquarters of Puri, Cuttack, Jajpur and Ganjam district. Another cell would be opened at Tahasil office of Bhubaneswar.
The cells would identify patches of government land fraudulently recorded by individuals and organisations in their names and help respective tahasils and district administration retrieve those land. These cells would give legal advice to tahasils.
Another important assignment of the cells is to help district administration to execute court orders related to land and expeditious disposal of cases pending in various courts. The cells would also focus on preparing filing of appeal in higher court in cases related to Orissa Estate Abolition Act 1951 and The Orissa Government Land Settlement Act, 1962.
The cells would be headed by an officer of the rank of additional collector. The cell director would be assisted by retired OAS officers, retired revenue inspector, retired amina and junior clerk. Retired government employees would be appointed on contract basis. The State government would provide all necessary administrative support.
A special cell which is currently functioning in Revenue and Disaster Management department has helped retrieve of government land worth hundreds of crore of rupees. Acres of government land in Puri and Bhubaneswar was recorded in favour of the State.
